The titanium dioxide (TiO2)
In our project, Active tiles will be prepared using only micro-sized TiO2. Here it is shown the real difference between a nano-powder and a micrometric one thanks to a high resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy (University of Turin). In this pictures you can see the different dimensions of the titanium dioxide particles. Even if it seems to be minimal, the nanoparticles (top figures) can be inhaled and they are so dangerous for health; bigger particles as those in the bottom figures, instead, cannot be inhale, avoiding all the problems related to the health hazard.
